Head of IT

About the role
Dirac is seeking an experienced and hands-on Head of IT to lead and develop the company’s IT function. In this role, you will be responsible for defining and executing the IT strategy that enables Dirac’s business objectives, supports innovation, and ensures secure, scalable, and reliable technology across the organization. You will work closely with executive management, R&D, and other key stakeholders to ensure that IT capabilities actively contribute to operational excellence, product development, and long-term growth.
You will report to the CFO and lead the IT team, consisting of two engaged colleagues based at Dirac HQ in Uppsala.
Key responsibilities
- Lead IT operations to ensure secure, high-performing, and reliable infrastructure, proactively monitoring systems and implementing disaster recovery strategies to guarantee high availability. Optimize platform performance to drive efficiency, scalability, and seamless business operations.
- Develop and enforce cybersecurity and data protection policies to safeguard company assets, ensure regulatory compliance, and mitigate risks through access controls, encryption, and threat detection.
- Establish IT governance frameworks and standards to drive operational efficiency, leveraging automation and best practices while optimizing budgets, vendor relationships, and procurement to ensure cost-effective and high-impact technology investments.
- Drive the adoption of AI and data-driven technologies across the organization, including an AI governance framework, identifying opportunities to enhance productivity, product innovation, and decision-making.
- Lead a small, high-impact IT team, fostering collaboration, growth, and cross-functional alignment.
- Partner closely with R&D to ensure IT infrastructure, tools, and platforms meet their needs, supported by open communication and a shared commitment to driving innovation and business success.
- Serve as a strategic partner across the organization, aligning technology with business goals and delivering transparent, regular updates to senior management on IT performance and initiatives.
In addition to the above, you will:
- Own the IT budget and financial planning, including long-term investment strategy, cost control, and vendor management across procurement, contract negotiation and follow-up
- Define and drive the company’s digitalization roadmap, identifying opportunities to modernize systems, improve ways of working, and introduce new technologies where they create clear business value
- Take end-to-end ownership of the IT environment, including lifecycle management of hardware and software, ensuring solutions are scalable, well-integrated, and support future growth
- Establish and maintain strong data governance practices
- Work closely with Quality Management to set processes, procedures, and guidelines related to ISO and other certifications.
Qualifications and experience
You bring experience from high-growth environments and have successfully built scalable IT organizations by establishing clear ownership, strong governance, and efficient ways of working that support both growth and operational maturity.
- Several years of experience as an IT Manager or in a similar senior role
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Strong expertise in cloud platforms, cybersecurity, and IT governance
- Experience driving AI/ML initiatives, including the implementation of AI-powered tools (e.g., copilots, Claude, automation, data platforms), with a strong understanding of AI/ML concepts and their practical application in business and product environments
- Hands-on experience with Atlassian tools such as JSM, Jira, and Confluence
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to communicate technical decisions in a clear and pedagogical way to stakeholders across the organization
- Microsoft Azure and Office 365
- Experience with security systems such as Microsoft Purview
- Holds a valid work permit or citizenship allowing you to work in Sweden
- Fluent in English, as it is our corporate language
Preferred experience, but not required
- Working in a fast-growing tech company
- Software and asset management systems
- Understanding GitHub and CI/CD pipelines
- Knowledge of AWS
- Experience in implementing ISO 27001

Location
Your main location will be at Dirac’s headquarters in central Uppsala, Sweden. Living with commuting distance to Uppsala is an advantage.
